Demelza Jones

Dr Demelza Jones is Lecturer in Sociology at Aston University. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Bristol (UK), and Masters degrees from the University of Bristol and University of Nottingham (UK). Her research interests include migration, (super)diversity, transnational and diasporic religion, and inequality and disadvantage. She currently leads a project (in collaboration with Canon Dr Andrew Smith of the Birmingham Anglican Diocese) exploring the use of Anglican church spaces by migrant and minorityethnic led congregations, and resultant forms of encounter between these congregations and the ‘mainstream’ Anglican Church. Previous research has included work on the experiences of families living in a disadvantaged urban area, and on identity formation and performance among diverse South Asian migrants in Britain. Prior to becoming an academic, Demelza worked in the NGO sector with disadvantaged young people, and refugees and asylum seekers. Dr Jones’ role in CHIEF will be Partner Team coordinator of WP6, and she will be involved in case-study research with civil society stakeholder organisations in WP4.
